TAKE THE TIME TO TALK is FDANZ’s nationwide campaign encouraging you to spend time with your family and loved ones, swapping stories about important events, special memories and achievements. Later at the appropriate time these stories can be translated into a service that is meaningful and celebrates the life of your loved one.
In my family we talk about our wishes for our final days and inevitably our funeral. My mother has always encouraged us to keep our final wishes updated and kept in a special location that we all know how to access.
I’ve chosen two songs I’d like played at my funeral; ’Chiquitita’ by ABBA (to remind my loved ones that its ok to be sad but please smile tomorrow) and one that isn’t quite so well known “Clouds” by Zach Sobiech.
Quite often I find myself having a conversation with our kids that goes along the lines of… “If I got hit by a bus tomorrow, always remember that…” followed by either a reliable “I will always be there with them in their heart” or some life lesson about how to be a good person.
They all know I want to be farewelled in an Archetype, probably the whitewash one. Half my ashes to be buried with our first dog at Black Ridge Vineyard, in Earnscleugh, Central Otago, where I feel like I belong, and the other half for the kids to keep with them.
