The nickel and bronze components are made of Zamak which is a group of metal alloys including; Zinc, Aluminium, Magnesium and Copper. During the die-casting process, zinc being the main alloy does not disperse in the air or any substance in the environment that causes pollution, therefore the production cycle has a low environmental impact.
As zinc is an essential trace element to humans, small amounts are necessary to maintain health in helping to maintain our immune system, treating wounds, acne, gingivitis, peptic ulcers, osteoporosis and muscle cramping.
Both zinc and the next major constituent of the casting alloy, aluminium, has extremely low toxicity levels, therefore the zamak handles are safe for the environment. The zamak components of the handles can be recycled or remelted and when buried these components will start breaking down within in weeks to months dependant on the soil and depth.
Finishes: Bronze or Nickel with a solid pine insert coloured to match the Kowhai, Teal and Cornwall caskets.
